Mr Pipat Soisook, a Darwin MSc student on the recently completed project Taxonomic Initiative for Southeast Asian Bat Studies: Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Lao PDR has just been awarded "Best thesis at the Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, in Agriculture and Biological Science" for the academic year 2008.

Pipat was one of eight students (from Thailand, Lao, Cambodia and Vietnam) who completed their MSc theses as part of this project.

Among other achievements, the project described a species of bat new to science, Kerivoula titania (Titania's woolly bat). The project was also heavily involved in the development of the new natural history museum at the Prince of Songkla University, which was opened by the Thai Royal, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Many of the exhibits were based on the ideas, text and designs of members of the Darwin team.
