The Darwin Initiative

Darwin partner CORALINA featured in Nature

The Darwin partner CORALINA (Corporation for the Sustainable Development of Archipelago of San Andres, Old Providence and Santa Catalina) has been featured in the prestigious science journal Nature.

Two Darwin projects have worked with CORALINA - Marine habitat mapping development in San Andres Archipelago, Colombia and Sustainable Management of the black land crab in Colombia. Both projects were led by researchers at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

CORALINA uses an effective approach of intensive outreach to win the support and participation of the local community. This is combined with effective legislation, which gives CORALINA the mandate both to specify management plans, and to implement them. The Marine Protected Area managed by CORALINA covers some 10% of the Caribbean Sea.

The article was published in Nature, volume 451, p.122 - 123.
